At the end of April, our European Space Agency support team based in the Netherlands supported the Dutch part of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge by hosting a participating team in their offices. Serco Nederland BV supports the European Space Agency’s ESTEC (NL) and ESAC (ES) locations by providing over 120 staff in the areas of administrative support, laboratory technical services, space systems engineering and space science.
The NASA International Space Apps Challenge is a two-day "hack-a-thon" where teams of technologists, scientists, designers, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, developers and students across the globe collaborate and engage with publicly-available data to design innovative solutions for global challenges.
Examples of projects covered in the Dutch event are:
- Using origami-based designs to create foldable habitats that can reduce transportation volumes and utilise the structural characteristics of folding
- Develop a web tool, mobile device app or add-on for existing apps or websites that leverages NASA imagery and climate data to illustrate the impacts of our changing Earth in areas of interest to you.
- Develop an app or platform to crowd-source information for comparing changes in environmental factors, such as temperature, relative humidity, air pollution, with occurrence of symptoms of allergies and respiratory diseases.
